Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi /Amrita /Gulvel /Gulancha)

Tinospora cordifolia, known in Ayurveda as Amrita, is a ‘bitter herb’. Like any other bitter herb, Amrita acts on the central nervous system, stimulating the release of gastric juices that digest fats, having a beneficial effect on cholesterol metabolism. Amrita also assists circulation in the liver, helping the liver modulate blood sugars and cholesterol. It protects the brain from the effects of oxygen and glucose deprivation that may be caused by poor circulation, hypoglycemia, or excessive medication for diabetes. Amrita also increases that activity of white blood cells, but not of the macrophages, which are the white blood cells associated with cholesterol deposits.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa / Haridra)

Turmeric contains potent curcuminoids (curcuminoids are polyphenols and are responsible for the yellow color of turmeric) that recharge antioxidant processes. In laboratory studies with animals, turmeric prevented the oxidation of cholesterol into hardened cholesterol plaques in the linings of the arteries. Traditionally known as a potent blood purifier and hepato-protective agent, turmeric is wide-spread in Ayurvedic healing.

Fenugreek (Methika/ Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Fenugreek is one of the spices that give Indian cuisine its distinctive flavor. Studies with male endurance athletes (cyclists) found that extracts of Fenugreek helped the muscles use sugar as a fuel. From tests conducted on animals, it was found that the seed powder helped stabilize the liver and kidney in diabetic animals and prevented clotting without inducing bleeding.

Black pepper (Maricha / Piper nigrum)

Black pepper acts as a catalyst allowing the herbs to be better absorbed and utilized in the body. Black pepper contains piprene which is known to enhance absorption of biochemicals of other ingredients.

Dosage
For best results take one capsule with breakfast or lunch and a second capsule with your second meal of the day, every day, with a glass of water.

There are no known interactions between ‘Narsimha’ or any of its constituent herbs and prescription medications.

Symptoms of Heart and Cholesterol Imbalances

Following a healthy diet, regular exercise, not smoking, avoiding being hyper tense and over stressed are some of the simple but effective measures that can be implemented. Many Asian herbal formulas for people with heart or circulatory conditions work directly on the heart or clotting factors in the blood. They can be dangerous when used with prescription drugs. ‘Narsimha’, instead, safely works on the digestive tract. It is effective in supporting the maintenance of healthy cholesterol levels and lipid metabolism, thus ensuring an overall healthy cardiovascular system.
‘Narsimha’ cannot cure either heart disease or its underlying conditions, but by supporting metabolic balance, it can help preserve the healthy metabolism of cholesterol.

It has been noticed that Turmeric can bring fibrinogen to normal in just 15 dyas. In a study conducted by  Ramirez-Bosca and her colleagues selected eight subjects with elevated fibrinogen levels and treated them with 20 mg of Curcuma longa (turmeric) extract per day. After only 15 days, previously elevated levels of fibrinogen dropped like a rock in all eight subjects. No adverse effects were noted by any of the subjects nor were there any adverse changes in any other blood chemistries. 
Studies have also shown that a daily intake (200 mg) of the turmeric extract resulted in a decrease in total blood lipid peroxides as well as in LDL and HDL-lipid peroxidation.  This anti-atherogenic effect was accompanied by a curcuma antioxidant –induced normalization of the plasma levels of fibrinogen and of the apo (apolipoprotein )B/apo A ratio, which may help decrease the cardiovascular risk.

Ayurvedic science has long believed that vata, pitta and kapha are responsible for heart and circulatory problems.  People who get Vata conditions tend to go through a phase in which there are no heart or circulatory problems, but other systems of the body are stressed. There may be constipation, dry cough, or dark circles beneath the eyes. Hypertension, high cholesterol, or heart disease may develop months or years after the onset of these seemingly unrelated symptoms. Vata conditions may produce spasms of the blood vessels or irregular transmission of heart impulses.
The underlying cause of Pitta imbalances is toxicity. Pitta conditions arise after hormone imbalances (usually estrogen or thyroid hormone), infection (viral or bacterial), or after toxic exposure. Symptoms may include indigestion, acid reflux, and heartburn. Pitta imbalance may produce toxicity or injury to coronary vessels. This imbalance can strike at any stage of life, but is most common in middle age.
Kapha conditions are accompanied by long-term obesity, swelling and edema, or kidney disease.  Ayurveda also refer to heart and circulatory imbalance caused by “parasites,” conditions we in the modern era would consider nutritional deficiency. Kapha may deposit plaque or clots. Kapha heart conditions strike people who have been heavy so long the circulatory system just ‘wears out’. People who have kapha conditions also tend to have symptoms characterized by phlegm: hay fever, nasal discharge, and asthma or chest congestion.
