It is responsible for performing various vital functions such as digestion of food, absorption of nutrients and getting rid of toxins in the body. Any complications in its functioning can cause serious liver diseases. Our product ‘Tritone’ gently supports detoxification and normal functioning of the liver after dietary imbalance, viral infection or toxic exposure. The ‘Tritone’ formula is a simple blend of three well known and well-researched, safe and effective natural ayurvedic herbs. Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi /Amrita /Gulvel /Gulancha)
Tinospora cordifolia, better known in Ayurveda as Amrita or ‘heavenly elixir’, is a well-studied herb with a specific application to support normal circulation in the liver and cellular recovery. Like any other bitter herb, Amrita acts on the central nervous system, stimulating the release of gastric juices that digest fats, having a beneficial effect on cholesterol metabolism. Amrita also assists circulation in the liver, helping the liver modulate blood sugars and cholesterol. Amrita increases the activity of white blood cells to form ‘colonies’ around infectious agents. It protects the brain from the effects of oxygen and glucose deprivation that may be caused by poor circulation, hypoglycemia or excessive medication for diabetes. The dosage of Amrita in ‘Tritone’ is sufficiently active, but is less than 1% of the amount that might cause constipation or interfere with the absorption of vitamin B.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa / Haridra)
A commonly used spice, Ayurveda uses Turmeric to support the liver and to relieve inflammation. Turmeric is traditionally known to support liver function and has been shown active by reducing the damage caused by free-radicals. Laboratory tests have found that Turmeric, a potent source of curcuminoids, recharges the antioxidant process and is antimutagenic (it potentially helps prevent cellular mutating that may be caused by chemotherapy or radiation). Traditionally known as a potent blood purifier and hepato-protective agent, use of Turmeric is wide-spread in Ayurvedic healing and encourages normal function of the liver.
Eclipta alba (Bhringaraj/ Maka)
Eclipta alba, also known as Bhringaraj, is traditionally indicated for various kinds of liver imbalance and acts as a liver protective agent. It supports gastro-intestinal digestion and metabolism in the liver by supporting the production of bile, assisting in fat metabolism. Laboratory studies have shown that Eclipta alba lowered the threshold of pain and inhibited inflammation. It is also commonly used in traditional formulations for migraine and vertigo.
Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa / Katuka/ Kuru)
Kutki, a bitter herb, acts as a detoxifying agent.

Close Causes and Symptoms of Liver Imbalances

Our liver plays a key role in keeping us healthy. Everything that we eat, drink or even breathe & absorb through our skin eventually reaches our liver. Although it is a resilient organ, constantly renewing and replenishing its cells, it is sensitive to problems. One of the most common and leading cause of liver disease is excessive alcohol consumption and use of recreational drugs. Abnormalities of the liver present at birth, trauma, injury, nutritional deficiencies, metabolic disorders, infections, exposure to synthetic chemicals and drugs, as well as day-to-day toxic exposure, would all contribute to liver problems.
Symptoms of Liver Imbalances
The human liver is a multi-tasking agent… it acts as a storage unit for sugar, releasing it when the body needs energy. The liver also performs the critical task of producing vital substances such as bile, a fluid that carries away waste and helps digest fat in the small intestine, as well as cholesterol, a substance that is needed by every cell in the body. All these functions are critical for staying healthy. Any fluctuations in these duties can be detrimental to sound health. It is essential to identify symptoms of liver problems in order to take corrective measures. Some of the common known symptoms of liver diseases include chronic fatigue, dark colored urine, nausea, abdominal pain and swelling, loss of appetite and discolored skin and yellowish tinged eyes.

Laboratory studies conducted on mice have shown that Tinospora cordifolia or Amrita reduces the toxic side effects of cyclophosphamide, the main ingredient in Cytoxan (Cytoxan is an alkylating agent and is an anti-cancer chemotherapy drug). In a laboratory study, Eclipta alba (Bhringraj) was shown to protect the liver from the effects of several commonly used prescription drugs.
Kupffer cells are major determinants of outcome of liver injury. Their activity was studied by researchers in a model of chronic liver disease. The effect of Tinospora cordifolia or Amrita, an indigenous agent with proven hepatoprotective activity, was evaluated on Kupffer cell function, using carbon clearance test as a parameter. The findings showed that in the group treated with Tinospora cordifolia or Amrita carbon decreased to 14.24 7.74 min (p < .01) as compared to vehicle control, indicating a significant improvement in Kupffer cell function and a trend towards normalization.

Ayurvedic science believes that liver issues can arise from either of two imbalances. One is ‘toxicity’ or pitta (Pitta is the transforming principle and is warming in nature) imbalance. This can be caused by poisoning, infection or radiation, but the lifestyle factors are the same whether the imbalance is toxic or infectious. Excessive use of alcohol or recreational drugs, indulgence of fiery emotions such as irritability, anger or hate, working to the point of exhaustion and exercising hard enough to break out in a sweat all aggravate the imbalanced pitta liver.
Liver issues can also arise as a complication of obesity or diabetes, which Ayurveda terms as the kapha (Kapha is the anabolic principle and is cooling, fluid and solid in nature, giving stability) imbalance and western medicine refers to as ‘fatty lives’. Heavy workouts also aggravate this form of liver imbalance, but it is subtly improved by passive exposure to heat; hot showers, soaking in hot tubs or laying out in the sun (after applying sunscreen). Any lifestyle choice that leads to lassitude, heaviness, pallor, chills, bloating or indigestion makes this form of liver imbalance worse.
