Bacopa monniera (Brahmi)
In Ayurveda, Bacopa monniera, known as brahmi, is used as both herb and vegetable, as a cure for stress and anxiety. Although in India ayurveda has been using brahmi in various formulas for thousands of years, as an herbal remedy to cure stress-related diseases, scientific research to confirm the effectiveness of the herb is in its early stages. An experiment with animals found that brahmi helps the brain restore the enzymes that help it clear away stress hormones. Another study suggests it may also protect the body from the effects of second-hand smoke. A clinical study in Australia found that the herb doesn’t help your brain remember more in the short term, but it keeps you from forgetting what you do need to remember from day to day.
Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi/ Spikenard)
Jatamansi is the Himalayan equivalent of the calmative herb valerian, but without its sedative effects. Jatamansi helps relax the muscles. Basic biological research suggests that it blunts the effects of histamine (histamine is a biogenic amine, which is involved in local immune responses. It also regulates the physiological function in the gut and acts as a neurotransmitter) your body makes during allergies. Laboratory studies have shown that Jatamansi protects the brain from the effects of poor circulation. In another study, it increased production of the anti-depressant chemical serotonin (serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter synthesized in serotonergic neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) and enterochromaffin cells in the gastrointestinal tract of animals including humans. Serotonin is also found in many mushrooms and plants, including fruits and vegetables), not affecting reuptake of the chemical in ways that would cause ‘giddiness’, but rather increasing production, simply assuring that the brain has an ample supply.
Dosage
For best results, take one capsule with a glass of water, thirty minutes prior to sleep or when you need to calm your mind. For twenty four hour stress support, we recommend taking Usha, our daytime stress formula, in the morning, while taking Nisha at night.
Many herbal formulas for sleeping and relaxation, have the warning ‘Do not operate machinery or drive’. There is no need for that precaution when taking Nisha, as it does not act as a sedative.

• Bacopa monniera (Brahmi Ghan) 190 mg

Getting a good night's sleep is absolutely essential for feeling refreshed and alert during the day. Lack of a sound and peaceful sleep can be potentially harmful to your health (Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorder). Extreme work pressures, problems with relationships, unhealthy food and lifestyle habits, dependence on alcohol and high intake of caffeine, hyper tension are all primary stress inducers resulting in sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep can result in accidents on the job and on the road; reduce your focus and concentration, affect your relationships, health, and mental prowess and leave you feeling lethargic and sluggish.
Symptoms of stress
In order to tackle sleep deprivation, it is essential to be aware of its symptoms. Having difficulty falling asleep despite being tired, awakening too early in the morning despite not feeling refreshed, daytime drowsiness, fatigue, and irritability, awakening frequently during the night or lying awake in the middle of the night, requiring sleeping pills or alcohol to fall asleep are some of the most common signs of stress-related sleep disorders.

Studies show that a normal human being spends his one-third life asleep. A lack of restorative rest can have far more long term health consequences than just sleepiness. Sleep problems profoundly disturb both sleeping and waking life. Varied people have varied problems… some of us sleep too little, some too fitfully, or some not at all.
For long, ancient ayurveda has maintained that the right herbal remedy can help resolve obvious symptoms of anxiety. And based exactly on these teaching we have come up with our night-time stress formula Nisha.
The product contains two ayurvedic herbs that are known to bring night-time relief, ensuring your mind is in a calm and peaceful state, purged of all excess thoughts, allowing your body to take the rest that it requires. As Nisha is not a sedative it does not cause drowsiness. More importantly, as Nisha allows you to slow your thought process, it is also very helpful during meditation and yoga practice.

Ayurvedic science speaks of anxiety and stress as the result of self-centered actions that forget the rhythms of the universe. Disturbance on a spiritual level becomes disturbance on a physical level in two different ways. Ayurveda in India says that when ‘prana vata’ (moves “life force” from food into the body) and ‘vyana vata’ (energies that originate in the heart and circulate throughout the entire body) are in a state of imbalance, it causes the mind and body to be out of sync with each other denying the desired positive results.
Ayurveda also teaches that the kind of diet a person follows affects sleeping habits. People who don’t eat enough do not sleep well. However, if it is necessary for any reason to limit consumption, it is helpful to avoid dry or cold foods. In other words, if you’re not sleeping well and you must diet, eat small, hot, cooked meals rather than stale power bars or any kind of food that is dry or undercooked.
